Thailand: Part 4

Hello friends!

With thousands of travel photos from our trip to Thailand, I am constantly going through them and finding new gems.  One of our favorite things to cope with the hot winter days (believe it or not, winter was in the upper 80s every day - I can only imagine what summer must feel like) was to order delicious, fresh made smoothies everywhere we went!

Do you ever go to a restaurant and wonder if they share the kitchen with the place next door?  In Thailand, sometimes an entire street seems to be the same "restaurant," and it works out great!  Once you sit down at a "restaurant" (all of the restaurants we went to were little stalls on the sidewalk with a small seating area to the side or in the back), as soon as you order a smoothie, you hear the blender buzzing.  Often a little old lady would even cross the street carrying our smoothies and we would pay her, rather than the person who took our order.  It's a great concept and we sure enjoyed it.

Below is a mango smoothie and a watermelon-lime smoothie.

Here I am, happy as a clam, ready to enjoy the mango smoothie.  My personal favorite from our trip was the coconut-mango smoothies we got from Addy's Happy Smoothie in Chiang Mai.  If you are ever there, this place is the BEST!  It's on Soi 6 and the coconut-mango smoothie is to die for.  They take a fresh, young coconut, hack into it with a cleaver (with no fear at all - it's quite impressive), pour the coconut water into a blender, and scrape out a bunch of the soft, white meat to add in.  Then they expertly peel a perfectly ripe mango and add that to the mix.  With a touch of ice and a loud BRRRRbRRR... voila! Your smoothie is ready!

I wouldn't mind a smoothie right now in this warm summer we've been having in the PNW!
